Captn Groovy to play benefit

Hey Groovy Fans,

It's been a while since any news of your favorite 70's band has been posted, but fear not. Capt'n Groovy is set to perform for a very worthy cause.

On May 10, Capt'n Groovy will be performing at the Kathleen Tunney Benefit Concert. This benefit concert was set up by the Kathleen Tunney Foundation to help Kathleen, a Chicago native, in her fight against cancer.

Just to give you a little background, Kathleen is a 24 year cancer survivor. Unfortunately, her cancer returned recently and a 16 hour surgery was needed during which she lost part of her jaw and lip. She still faces chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Not only has she continued to valiantly fight cancer, she has done so while caring for her son Sean. Sean has lived his entire in a wheelchair, unable to feed himself, and living with severe epilepsy.

Yet despite all the negative, there is a positive. The foundation in Kathleen's name is organizing a night of dancing and fun to raise money for Kathleen's past and present medical expenses. The benefit is going to take place Saturday, May 10, from 1-6 p.m., at 115 Bourbon Street in Merrionette Park. In addition to Capt'n Groovy, the Chicago Money Shot Blues Band will be providing musical entertainment during the event. Drinks will be provided and all are welcome to attend, from Mom and Dad to the kids.

As if that weren't enough, table will be set up for a silent auction. For those who don't know what that is, various prizes will be on a table with slips of paper and a box. If you are interested in a prize, you take a slip of paper, write down the amount you want to pay, then place the paper in the box. The highest bidder wins. Some of the prizes include tickets to a White Sox-Cubs game at U.S. Cellular Field and a one hour helicopter ride above Chicago.

If you have questions, the best person to contact would be Mike Lorber by phone at (773)580-7893 or email him at mikelorbs@yahoo.com. Everyone in the band is really looking forward to helping out with this benefit for Kathleen, and we hope to see you there. Take care.
